Dear Esther,
I am so happy to have found The Spike – I was missing Recipe Rifle (although I don’t really cook, and don’t have children), so this is the best bits of RR multiplied! I love it – thank you and good luck.

Thanks Caroline! I am INTENSELY worried that this blog will be a let down -Recipe Rifle’s readers really felt affectionate towards it – so I’m pleased that it’s doing the right things so far…

Brilliant – so glad to be able to read your “stuff” again post Recipe Rifle…. school run is s**t isn’t it….not so many 4 x 4s where I live but the nappy/conker/doing the own seat-belt etc… thing happens quite often………………. and I don’t have time to put any make up on or brush my hair. Luckily I don’t have time to find out what the other mums think 🙂

Yay! So glad to have you back. Was missing your banter from recipe rifle. I’m not much of cook though so was always most interested in your thoughts. The Spike is perfect! Keep doing what you’re doing, your refreshing honesty and humour is so appreciated by so many x

I can’t tell you how happy I was to see the Recipe Rifle email telling me about your new blog! I’m so pleased you did it.
Love it already and like your RR posts it’s reassuring to know other people think the same way about a whole range of things.

Welcome back! Desperately wished I had recipe rifle as backup some umpty ump years ago when I was house bound with small children and quietly and unobtrusively going mad. I’ve got nothing to say on fair isle sweaters though, sorry, err – comb a goat and knit one?

Huge fan of recipe rifle, in fact I’ve been re-reading the book (causing much unattractive subdued tube chuckling) so I’m delighted to have discovered your new blog xx

Good to keep reading your work…writing keeps us all sane! I’m looking past the “leave comments” bit…it may want one to sign up to wordpress.Re pumpkins..I’ve found the usual variety sold for carving is not as tasty as it could be…I wonder if other more tasty varieties would carve as well?

Love the new blog……I do miss the extended rants of RR but this is great. My children are older now too so I’m also through the dark ages. I don’t know if you want ideas or not but I would love to know box set recommendations. I’m having one of those phases where I can spend 45 mins scrolling fruitlessly scrolling through Netflix. Books that Kitty is enjoying ? (my 5 year old seems to be caught between two age groups). I could go on….cool aw15 buys ? (I don’t get to London much these days). Merci….X

I NEED to read your take on things like Gwynnies vaginal steaming so I’m super glad to see you spreading your writing love (God, vaginal and spread in one sentence, *Razzle alert*)… I’m a fellow contributor to Mumfidential (the piece on Scoliosis and my daughter was by me, based upon a previous blogpost) so I look forward to reading Spiked- I’m not sorry for my fucking shameless plug there, girls gotta try to make bread somehow and if that includes hoping better known writers like my stuff then so be it.

You won’t remember me at all but I knew you very briefly at Bristol and had my first child the same year as you, followed RR avidly, and love onthespike more- especially the fashion and beauty stuff. Anyway I feel sort of bad always reading and “taking” and never saying, yeah! , thanks for your honesty, I can relate! So this is just a little message which has taken me 5 years to write. I have three boys now – it is still full on!
